I just have to tell you about my Basics of
Cooking Class. We have
thought about a series of classes like this for
years. The problem
was always, how to structure it? What should I
include? What do
I leave out? Those of you who know me, know that I
am passionate
about food and cooking. You also know these other
things about me;
I am a Tucson Native
I taught cooking at the Tucson Boys and Girls Club
(when I was just a kid)
I have worked in various restaurants around Tucson
and Oro Valley
I am a self taught cook having slogged thorough
every recipe in
Julia Childs' Art of French Cooking
and zillions more from my rather
large cookbook collection.
I LOVE to cook
I LOVE to share my passion for good food
I have burned it, dropped it, and generally screwed
up every kind of
dish you could think of. ( I once cooked a ham with
the, nearly invisible,
paper wrapper still on it!!) All of these mishaps
have in their own ways contributed
to my becoming a better and better cook.
Now, I want to show you how.
My Basics of Cooking course lasts nine weeks.
We try to make each lesson fun and informative. We
are about to begin, I think our fourth
session of "Basics" and in the fall, will start our
second session of Intermediate Basics of
Cooking. The intermediate classes were the
brainchild of some students from my first
Basics course who wanted to
keep learning. They have become wonderful cooks and
great friends!
What a thrill it has been for me to share this time
and knowledge
cooking with them! I want to encourage you to
follow in their footsteps,
spatula held high, and join me in my next session.
I promise, you
will learn things about cooking, you never dreamed
existed. I will
learn from you too. Each week we will sit down with
our creations
and enjoy a wonderful meal and some interesting
conversation.
Before you know it, you will have acquired more
cooking skills and confidence than you thought
possible.
Believe me, I am not asking you to join me just because
it is my
job, I truly want to
share the joy and thrill of really good cooking!
The next classes start September 3 and continue
Wednesday nights.
Please join us.
P.S.
I have a new Basics series starting Wednesday, May
13, 09:
Everyday Cooking can be Fun!
