In this edition of The Lowdown, we will offer just about everything
you will ever need to know about Ethylene Gas interactions
I know.....I know, Ethylene Gas is not very sexy.
But, here's the deal, not all foods are friends. Just as with the rest
of us not everyone gets along. Sometimes the conflict is caused
by a food that emits Ethylene Gas.
This byproduct of...whatever, can cause
certain other foods to spoil much sooner. If you know which are
the foods who don't play well with others, you can separate
them like children and give a substantially longer life to both.
I am posting below, two lists. One of foods that generate
the gas and another that is affected by it.
Keep these guys apart and voila! Longer lasting food!
Foods that Generate Ethylene Gas
Citrus Fruit (except grapefruit)
Foods That can be Spoiled by Ethylene Gas
Cut Flowers (edible or for decoration)
